HOLZWORTH Family

Post by ginagale » Thu Apr 25, 2019 12:01 am

Our German immigrant was George Holzworth (or Holzwarth), who arrived in Galveston sometime before 1880 and was born circa 1840 in Germany. George married Wilhelmina "Mina" Mittelstadt in 1875, in Harris County (Spring). Wilhelmina was born 6 Mar 1856, in Texas (probably Spring). George died before 1900 and Wilhelmina remarried; she died 31 Oct 1931, in Galveston.

I found a newspaper article that mentions the sale of lot 11, block 402, to a George Holzwarth in 1882. This would be near the northeast corner of Avenue G and 43rd. The 1900 census records Wilhelmina's address as 4216 Ave G, which is no longer extant. On this census, Mina says she has been married 28 years, while her new husband is recorded with a zero. I also found a newspaper article describing the critical stabbing of George Holzworth, of 43rd Street, on 13 Nov 1884, which might explain his absence on the 1900 census.

I have quite a bit more on this family and am happy to share it with other family members.
